Then, finally, a series of storms that left us with a couple of feet of snow. Hope was renewed. Winter had finally started. The skiers were happy, happy, happy. Nordic races were rescheduled. Then today, it's RAINING! Let's not get into global warming, but seriously, where's winter?

Yup, no winter. Here in NYC we panicked back in October when we had a freak, very early snow storm. Since then, virtually nothing (well, less than 2" last week but that was it). Funny thing about this, we complained so bitterly last winter when we got dumped with 19" and froze from Nov. through Feb. This year I haven't had the heating on in the bedrooms and now I'm still complaining....
I think winter is just late. Sometimes it's late. I am not discounting global warming, but our memories where weather is concerned are only as long as we've been keeping records. :-)
We'll probably have snow in June (again) this year. :-)

North-east Scotland has had no winter of note, yet. Our ski slopes DO have some snow, though, and are operating! I was at Tahoe Early Jan.2010 and it was plenty cold then,but we'll no doubt be blsted soon.
It's 39 degrees right now here in Minneapolis! This winter is beyond weird. We had our first brown Christmas in the 22 years we've lived here. However, last year we had so much snow in December the roof of the Metrodome collapsed! I figure this is just balancing that.
My son lives in my house in Las Vegas. This last year they have had record rain fall. Lake Mead is considered full at a pool level of 1,229.00. As of December 27th, it was at 1134.00 (94.60 feet below the pool level).
What does this really mean?
Mead is roughly 100 feet below the high water mark and still only half-full. But the winter's not over. Colorado is getting snow and Vegas has getting rain. Eleven years of drought aren't going to resolve in one good year, but it helps.
Meanwhile, Renoo has suffered two rare winter wildland fires.
La Nina is alive and well in the Pacific Ocean.
My brother-in-law lives in Scottsdale, Mac. He laughs at us in January. Not so much in July! LOL

Horrible about the Reno fire! How crazy is it to see high fire danger warnings on the Amber Alert signs in Tahoe in January!
After last winter, I'm quite happy to do without snow. The only we've had so far was about three inches on Halloween and it's rare for us to get snow that early. After that, nothing until last weekened. It snowed a couple of inches, with a final inch of ice. Then two days later rain and warm temps washed it all away. And I was happy to see it go. We have no snow in the forecast for the coming week. Maybe we'll get hit in February or even March. I can do without it just fine, though.
I'm with you, Susan. If it was just me and the dog, I wouldn't mind. But our whole economy hinges on snow in the winter. Not to mention the rest of my family loves skiing! For the sake of the greater good, I'm hoping for lots more snow.
Yep, winter's weird here too. Not only do we have very little snow, we've had an unusually warm December and January. Not that I'm complaining! Winter is almost pleasant this year!
